Te Ako Manaaki

The Te Ako Manaaki Framework guides how we work together to support better outcomes for young people through coordinated, collaborative practice.

Developed by Janette Searle and used widely around Aotearoa, Te Ako Manaaki is a research-informed framework that supports effective cross-sector collaboration. It provides a practical structure for schools, community organisations, and government agencies to work collectively, recognising that education, wellbeing, and social outcomes are closely connected. The framework supports long-term, sustainable change by aligning people, services, and resources around shared goals.

We apply the Te Ako Manaaki Framework to:

  • Identify and address barriers to education for children and young people aged 6–16
  • Reduce the risk of exclusion from education by coordinating the right supports and services around each learner
  • Respond to attendance challenges by connecting students and whānau with appropriate supports to strengthen engagement in learning
  • Improve collaboration between schools, government agencies, and community organisations to achieve stronger outcomes for young people in their communities
